Education Reform

Have been reading and watching a lot about the Education Reform in the US. If you have young children, you might want to take a look. This isn’t a new issue, but as many other parents, I started paying closer attention to the subject since my kids started going to school.

Here are several links to some interesting videos with both sides of the debate. There are loads more, but these are the ones I was looking at today.

The case of Finland. Short video

Here is a longer talk from Pasi Sahlberg in Melbourne. Finland: An Education Phenomenon?  Minute 25: Finland has no private schools. The law forbids paying for basic education. Kids start school at 7. Finland believes in extended childhood. No standardized testing. There is just one type of schooling. There are no different systems such as Waldorf, Montesorri, et.

If you didn’t see earlier posts on Michelle Rhee, Ken Robinson, etc, then you can find them under the Eductation section of this blog.
