Coffee with Kath is a site for women who have kids and are at the same time committed to their career.

I became a mother 7 years ago. At the time I had a demanding job producing animated children’s tv series. Since then I have had an ongoing struggle to find my new life balance. I’ve also discovered that I share a lot of common ground with other women who have kids and a career. We are interested in a lot of the same stuff. We have common problems. We deal with similar issues. We pursue a lot of the same solutions. And we like to share what we’ve seen and learned with women like us.

It is a challenge for most women to find a balance between the professional and personal part of their lives. And it is, for the most part, a uniquely female issue. The conflict that mothers feel when they aren’t spending enough time with their kids because their work demands them, and the conflict that they feel when they have to stay home with a sick child and miss that board meeting is not often experienced by fathers.

This site is dedicated to things that inspire me and help me get my balance. If you would like to contribute to the site with your own discoveries, please share them.

  1. I like the idea of your blog. I have always struggled with this tension – and enjoy getting encouragement to keep looking after my family while pursuing a career. Kathy

Hi , thanks for the “like” on my blog. You have a great idea for a blog here! I was lucky enough to stay home with my kids when they were younger but I have been a working Mom for many years now and it is a challenge!!

Great blog!! Only with a strong support at home, wide networking and a lot of extra resources I’ve managed to keep pushing my career. Your blog is an excellent idea. Ines

  4. Thanks Inés. Your achievements are admirable! I still look at you and wonder how you do it. i can’t imagine what it was like 8 or 9 years ago! Does it get any easier as time goes on? 🙂

    Dear Kath

Blogs like yours are an excellent support for busy mamis, answering your question it gets easier when children are over 6 as they give you some more time for yourself. 🙂

    • I’m joyfully coming to that realization as the twins are nearing 7! 🙂

Let me know if there are other related subjects you find yourself researching on the web that I haven’t addressed.

    Hi Kath,
I’ve just found your blog and your idea of helping dislexic children. It’s great, thanks.
I’m a working mother with 5 years old twins and I think my 7 years old daugther is dislexic (now we’re starting with the diagnosis, although I’ve been treating her since she was 5), so I hope to find helpful ideas in your blog.

    • Hi Mira,
We have a lot in common! Twins, child with dyslexia, working mother…..
For more info specifically on dyslexia, take a look at my blog for the company, which is blog.fordyslexia.com, and register at http://www.fordyslexia.com. I will be launching the first app very soon.
Hope you find a lot of the information useful.
